Benefits and Flaws of Home-Made Juices
October 22, 2010 Uncategorized
Some of my friends often ask me why I make juices and smoothies when it is easier to buy them. For my friends, and all of you who rather buy then make juices, here’s why:
Home-made juices surpass all those we can buy at supermarkets or even those from health food stores, because all bought juices contain additives, preservatives and great many of those juices do not contain fresh juice in them at all! Home made are totally healthy and contain no additives or preservatives. I choose all the ingredients, I even choose the quality of fruits/vegetables, whether or not to put sugar/sweetener in them, I KNOW products are washed carefully… do I need to list more reasons?
For those who still don’t believe, try this one hi-energy booster; compare it with any other from your local store, and tell me the difference.
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 small carrots
- 2 beetroot (about 120g)
- 1 orange
- 120g strawberries
Wash the beetroot, peel carrots and orange, and juice them all together. Put your juice in a blender, add washed strawberries and few ice cubes, and whiz for 20 seconds. I usually decorate it with stripes of orange rind, but you don’t have to, it is not essential. Personally, this one is one of my top 5 energy boosters; it really gives strength and freshen me up.
I do not say home made juices do not have “flaws” but I do not see them as something that can repel me from making them, especially since I became mother. Three things I didn’t know about freshly squeezed, home-made juices. I stumbled upon this article, and here’s what I’ve found. I hope someone will find this useful and that I’m not the only one who didn’t know these seemingly obvious facts.
- Freshly squeezed juices are best to drink immediately after you’ve made them. 30 minutes after they are made, they start loosing their vitamins and even if they look ok, there’s no use of drinking them.
- It is best to drink them for your snack (this one I knew
). If you drink them immediately before your meal, it can make a false feeling that you are fed, which will make you grab something more to eat soon after your lunch, so you’ll take more calories in. It is not even smart to drink juices immediately after lunch because it can make digestive problems, mostly pain in the stomach. - Some juices are better clear and some are better with fruit pulp. Those with pulp contain fiber and are beneficial for digestion.
Till next post, try this “power pack” I proposed. I promise it won’t disappoint you!
