Avocado and Ham Canapés

It’s been a long since I shared some good, healthy recipe with you guys, so here’s one… It can be your breakfast or dinner, or you can make them to astonish your friends when visiting. As most of the recipes I share with you here, this one too is prepared in very few moments, it won’t make your kitchen and a lot of dishes dirty, and what is more important, it is low in calories (only 270 kcal per portion= 4 pieces). Even if about 85% of its calories come from fat, those fats are beneficial for our health. Let’s start!

This time you need:
1.    1 avocado;
2.    1 lemon, juiced;
3.    2 cloves of garlic;
4.    a little pepper;
5.    100 g parmesan cheese;
6.    100 g low-fat ham, sliced thinly; and
7.    4 integral rolls (or buns), or you can use French bread if you like, but that means more calories.

Preparation method:
1.    Cut the avocado in two halves and take out its seed, don’t peel it too much, because the greatest deal of nutrients and carotenoids in avocado occurs in the dark green flesh that lies just beneath the skin. Some researchers found out that it is best if you peel it just the way we peel bananas, but I still use the good, old knife!
2.    Then, chop avocado and put it in blender; add garlic, pepper, lemon juice and grated parmesan, and process it till you get smooth mass.
3.    Slice your rolls (I usually slice them in 4-5 pieces), put the avocado spread over them, add a piece of ham on each slice, and serve your canapés.
•    EXTRA TIP: Use fresh parsley leaves to decorate your masterpieces! I like to chop them, but if liked, you can put the whole twig over slices, it looks great, too.

Avocados are full of vitamin K, potassium, dietary fibers, folates, vitamins B6 and C. They promote heart health, have anti-inflammatory benefits, they optimize absorption of carotenoids, support cardiovascular health; they are excellent for blood sugar regulation, and have certain anti-cancer benefits.

I think those reasons are enough to make you try these. Enjoy!

    What a wonderful recipe.
    It took me a long time to get used to the taste of avocado. But once I had a really good guac. I was hooked. And… you’re right. They are a great nutritional source.
