5 Long Term Decisions toward Weight Loss

Most people I know fight extra kilos they gained in the previous month or so when they let themselves “few bites more than usual” :) They are looking for the latest, the most effective diets, trying all those “magical pills” that are advertised all around and even trying not to eat at all for few days! Insane, I know, but it is real. For all of them and for all of you, who found yourselves in my words, let me clear few things up. I hope my advices would be helpful because they are not some passing fads but lifelong habits.

1.   First of all, you need to learn to hear your body!

I’ll try to explain this in the simplest possible way . Once I read that most of us tune out our body’s protests. Due to modern life and society needs, long working days etc., we are constantly stuffing our bodies with foods that damage and harm us and our bodies are in a constant state of suffering and what’s the worst- we come to point when we no longer realize the harm that we are doing to ourselves. We confuse cravings with hunger. We think we want a chocolate bar and our body actually wants healthy fats. It creates a state of constant stress that we are not conscious of, and stress doesn’t work for weight loss. I know this is not easy to do if you work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but at least try to have with yourselves a bottle of yoghurt and a bottle of juice- salty and sweet “meals” that will help you make through the day till you get home and prepare yourselves a proper meal. This way you’ll avoid taking in extra calories, and in time, you’ll became “addicted” to these types of snacks instead of unhealthy, junk-food mid-meals.

2.    Try to be moderate!

Moderation is the key. I know you all are aware of this but think that it is not easy to follow this rule. I myself have different phases- or I follow rules perfectly, or I simply go wild with my eating habits. A true lifestyle plan will be easy to follow once you find your own plan. It might be tough for many people to find it, and sometimes it requires going through a strict dietary regime in order to create the control, but I think diet is justified if you would really continue to follow your own moderate food regime after it. You have to learn to control your appetite so that your appetite wouldn’t control you! Said in a simplest way, enjoy everything without excess and you won’t find yourself thinking of “forbidden foods”. E.g. try to eat a bar of chocolate, not entire chocolate!

3.    Do not create limits that MUSTN’T be crossed over!

We all know that forbidden fruit is the sweetest! Do not put such traps to yourselves because your minds will be trapped. We all have “sinned” and sometimes ate too much or drank an extra glass of wine. Our minds work like that- when we think that we must not do something, we definitely will do it. So, try as hard as you can, but if you happen to eat a double portion of ice-cream, try to double exercise that day, or try to walk to your office, or to local store, etc.

4.    Enjoy what you eat!

Enjoy your food because if you do not enjoy it your organism will be under constant stress that will prevent your weight loss. Most people do not like the taste of vegetables and all this healthy prepared food, but look at it this way- most of us didn’t like the taste of coffee when we tried it for the first time, but we acquire it because it associates us with the energy we get from it or with the pleasant moments with our friends while drinking coffee together so we started drinking it regularly. Think of healthy food as of your lifestyle, of your well-being, of your feeling great and full of energy and not as of your “obligation” for reaching slim figure.

5.    Try to reach your own perfection!

Every woman and man would like to be perfect. Perfect in job, in relationship, in knowledge, in parenthood, in sex…shortly, to be perfect in everything! It is not hard to reach perfection but your own perfection. We should keep in mind that there are no two exactly the same persons in the world so we must stop trying to look like our friend, or a TV star, or a girl\boy we saw on the street… We have to try to reach our own goals. Be proud of your small successes because big success is only gained through small ones! What am I telling you? Be happy if you lost only one kilo during this month even if you planned to lose more. At least, it is better to lose one kilo than not to lose a single gram at all.

What a good post. I especially like the last tip “try to reach your own perfection”.
To me, that means don’t compare yourself. Your body has it’s own point where it’s
in its healthiest state. Know where that is and be happy with who you are. We are all
    so special.
